Jannik Sinner kept his hopes of a Sunshine Double alive with a convincing win over Frances Tiafoe, moving into the Miami Open semi-finals.
It was a smooth, straightforward performance from the world number two, who eased past Tiafoe 6-2, 6-2. His next challenge comes in the form of Alexander Zverev, with a place in the final on the line.
After his impressive victory over Tiafoe, Sinner spoke openly about how he sees the Miami Open as a tournament.
He described it as âuniqueâ and said he appreciated its character while also noting how much he enjoyed playing in front of the fans.
Jannik Sinner shares what he finds unique about the Miami Open
Sinner spoke to reporters after his win and said: âItâs very unique.â
He then elaborated, saying: âAlso, how the stadium is made, you have two different views, playing from one side and the other side.
âThe atmosphere has been great this year. Behind the scenes, we have a lot of room and a lot of space, which is exactly what we need, especially at the beginning of the tournament.
âAfterwards, it is a little bit more empty, it seems even bigger. Itâs a great tournament. They take care of us in a very positive way, and I am always happy to come back here, so itâs good.â
Frances Tiafoe explains why he enjoys the Miami Open
Speaking in his own press conference, Tiafoe also shared his thoughts on the event.
He went on: âItâs different. Itâs a football stadium. I came to watch a lot of football games here, so itâs funny when the tournament is going on.
âItâs a big space. There are a lot of things they can do with it. The tournament has been here for a while now. Every year, the tournament has improvements, and itâs been elevated a little bit.
âItâs the best I have done here in a long time, so itâs been cool to be here and see the fans get after the match and get behind me.
âI really like playing here and being here.â
Tiafoe had spoken last year about wanting to challenge Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz more seriously, but last nightâs match showed he still has some work to do before reaching their level.
Looking at Sinnerâs record against Zverev ahead of their Miami clash
Sinnerâs next test is against Zverev, in a matchup between the two highest-ranked players remaining in the draw.
The winner will likely be seen as the favourite to lift the title, especially with both Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev already out of the tournament.
But given recent form, itâs tough to look past Sinner. The 22-year-old has enjoyed more success in their meetings lately.
Sinner leads the head-to-head 7-4 and has won their last six encounters. Zverev hasnât beaten him since 2023.
