Carlos Alcaraz backs Grigor Dimitrov to be good at padel

Alcaraz has previously spoken about his love for padel, the sport which has seen huge growth in recent years and is hugely popular in Spain.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion was in Miami for the Premier Padel event, where Alcaraz was asked which tennis players he thinks would be tough to face in padel.

Alcaraz suggested that players with good touch on the tennis court would be the most difficult to play, as he suggested both Grigor Dimitrov and Alexander Zverev.

“Someone with good touch,” said Alcaraz, as reported by the International Padel Federation. “Dimitrov for example, Dimitrov would be good. Zverev, maybe too, because of his height, his smashes.”

Carlos Alcaraz jokes that he and Jannik Sinner could beat the number one padel team

Alcaraz and Sinner are the dominant forces in men’s tennis right now, but they generally only play singles and have never played doubles together before.

Padel is traditionally played in a doubles format, and has been dominated by Spaniard Arturo Coello and Argentinian Agustin Tapia, who have been the number one team for the last three years.

Alcaraz was also asked if he thinks he and Sinner could beat Coello and Tapia at padel, to which he joked that they would ‘obviously’ win.

“In padel? Obviously, us. No doubt,” said Alcaraz, with a smile on his face.

Alcaraz is now expected to head back home to begin his preparations for the clay court season.

The ATP Tour’s world number one will play his next tournament at the Monte Carlo Masters, which begins on April 5, where Alcaraz is the defending champion.
