Coco Gauff is eyeing the Miami Open title after moving into the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Gauff came through her round of 16 match against Sorana Cirstea, adding to earlier wins over Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Alycia Parks.
The American is still searching for her first title of whatâs been a frustrating season so far, but Miami would be a big stage to break that drought.
Speaking recently about which non-Slam event sheâd most like to add to her CV, Gauff didnât hesitate.
Coco Gauff talks about her motivation to win the Miami Open
After her latest win, Gauff was asked on Tennis Channel: âYouâve won the biggest tournaments in the world, but where would the Miami Open rank for you in significance?â
Gauff responded: âYeah, I think outside of the Slams itâs probably the number one tournament that I want to win, and then Indian Wells is number two.
âYeah I think thatâs pretty much⊠I mean obviously there are other tournaments I want to win too, but if I had to pick one, I would definitely pick Miami outside of the Slams.
âAnd yeah, I think this is my first quarterfinal, which is kind of crazy because Iâve gotten a bye mostly in this tournament. So Iâm just happy to get through to this stage.
âDefinitely wouldnât have thought that this year would have been the year I would have got to this stage, but weâll take it.â
It makes sense why Gauff has her eye on winning in Miami â sheâs from Delray Beach right up the road from Hard Rock Stadium.
Coco Gauff reaches Miami Open quarterfinals and sets new WTA record
Reaching the last eight of the Miami Open, Gauff has also achieved a significant milestone. Sheâs now the youngest player to have reached the quarterfinals at all 10 current WTA 1000 events.
The 22-year-old is now a quarterfinalist at every active WTA 1000 tournament, and sheâs the youngest player ever to hit that mark.
Miami was the final piece of that puzzle, but sheâll be aiming to keep her run going in front of a home crowd.
Next up for Gauff is a tough challenge against Switzerlandâs Belinda Bencic, who is seeded 12th in this yearâs draw.
Gauff does hold a slight edge in their previous meetings, having won four out of six encounters. And with the backing of her home crowd, sheâll be hoping that gives her an extra push into the semifinals.
