Serena Williams has been eligible to return to the WTA Tour for a few weeks now.
But there’s been nothing from her side about what comes next.
That silence has sparked questions among fans about whether she actually plans to make a comeback, even after being cleared by the ITIA’s drug-testing pool.
But regardless of when she decides, whether it’s soon or much later, Williams appears to be staying in shape and keeping herself ready. Or at least that’s what Alycia Parks has hinted at.
Parks Shares Insights from training sessions with Serena Williams
During her post-match interview, most of the conversation centred on Serena Williams.
Parks had trained with Serena earlier in the year, which has only added more fuel to the talk of a possible comeback.
Her latest comments will only spark further speculation. She explained how their sessions began: “Um, yeah, I did text her when I was. I think in the Middle East, and I was like, hey, like, can you practice when I come back to the States? And she was like, yeah, let’s go. So we got in a few sessions and, yeah, she’s been helping me.”
When asked about how often they train together when she’s home – three times a week – Parks responded: “She’s hitting good. Um, yeah, she’s definitely fit. She looks great and she’s hitting the ball amazing.”
The inevitable question followed – is Serena planning a return? Parks didn’t give much away: “I don’t know if she’s coming back. I don’t know when she’s coming back. Yeah we just go to practice we don’t really talk about too much of her coming back just like fun stuff and we are talking so yeah.”
Parks also spoke about what it means to train with someone of Serena’s stature:
“Definitely gives me a lot of confidence.”
“I do feel like the stuff that she’s teaching me in practice is applying to my game and matches, so I’m just going to keep doing that and keep building from that.”
“I guess, like, on this level it’s kind of about being more patient than focusing on patterns, so we’ve been working on that quite a bit, so yeah.”
Returning to a Deep Field: Serena Williams and the Modern WTA
Throughout her career, Serena faced off against plenty of big names and Hall of Famers. But if she steps back onto the court now, she’ll find a different landscape—one packed with depth.
The current strength of the women’s game stands out not because of one dominant force, but because the talent is spread throughout the top ranks and beyond. The field doesn’t just have top-end stars; there’s quality up and down the rankings in a way that feels unique compared to previous eras.
Aryna Sabalenka has solidified her spot as world number one, leading a pack that includes Elena Rybakina, who continues to show why she’s considered one of the best ball-strikers on tour.
Even below them in the rankings, Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek remain serious threats despite some recent dips in form. Both have shown they can consistently challenge for titles when at their best.
And that’s before even mentioning Jessica Pegula or Naomi Osaka, who are capable of putting together strong runs when healthy. The next wave is already pushing through too, with names like Victoria Mboko starting to make headlines alongside more established prospects such as Mirra Andreeva.
If Serena does come back, climbing back to the top wouldn’t be straightforward. It’s not just about facing individual stars anymore—the entire field has become deeper than ever.
