Alexandra Ealaâs remarkable start to the 2026 season rolled on as she pulled off another upset, this time over Laura Siegemund in Miami.
After dropping the first set, Eala regrouped and fought back to secure a place in the third round of the Masters event. It was another milestone for her growing career, one that had already included several notable victories earlier in the year.
Next up for Eala is Magda Linette, who stunned world number one Iga Swiatek to advance. It sets up an unexpected matchup between two players riding high on confidence.
Alexandra Eala sets new milestone at the Miami Open
Eala and Siegemund were on court for three hours and 20 minutes, with momentum shifting several times throughout the contest.
OptaAce has noted that this Miami Open fixture is now the longest match of Ealaâs career so far.
That trend has carried over into 2026. She has already played five three-setters this season, winning four of them.
Ealaâs only deciding set defeat in 2026 came against Alycia Parks as she crashed out of the first round of the Australian Open.
Alexandra Ealaâs history against Magda Linette
Eala might be relieved to avoid Swiatek, but sheâll still need to overturn a losing record against Linette if she wants to keep her run going in Miami.
The two have met three times on the WTA Tour, with Linette winning twice against the world number 56.
Linette came out on top in their first two meetings, at the Abu Dhabi Open in 2024 and then again in Nottingham the following year.
However, Eala won their most recent encounter earlier this year at the ASB Classic.
That win saw her advance to the semi-finals of the Auckland tournament, giving her some momentum heading into this match-up.
