Carlos Alcaraz has arrived in Miami hoping to recover from his surprising defeat to Daniil Medvedev at Indian Wells.

Before the loss, Alcaraz had put together a 16-match unbeaten run to start the year, surpassing Stan Wawrinka’s best-ever season opening on the ATP Tour.

But Medvedev ended that streak with a straight-sets win, taking down the Spaniard 6-3, 7-6 under the California sun.

Alcaraz has since made his way to Florida, aiming to recapture the Miami Open title he last won back in 2022.

To move past Andy Murray in career prize money, Carlos Alcaraz will need to reach the Miami Open final. Alcaraz, fresh off his run in Indian Wells, has now accumulated $64,274,163 in prize money at just 22 years old.

Andy Murray finished his career with $64,687,542 in total earnings. A spot in the Miami final would add $612,340 to Alcaraz’s tally, moving him ahead of Murray’s mark.

While Alcaraz is close to surpassing Murray’s earnings total, he still has some distance to go in terms of overall titles won.

The Spaniard picked up his 26th title at the Qatar Open by beating Arthur Fils. Meanwhile, Murray collected 46 ATP trophies during his playing days before retiring after the 2019 European Open.

Andy Murray’s first career title

Andy Murray’s breakthrough came at the 2006 San Jose Open, where he captured his first ATP title.

As an unseeded player, Murray navigated a tough draw, taking down Mardy Fish, Wang Yeu-tzuoo, Robin Soderling and Andy Roddick on his way to the final.

There, he faced off against Lleyton Hewitt, the third seed and already a two-time Grand Slam winner. Despite dropping the opening set 2-6, Murray fought back to win 2-6, 6-1, 7-6.

After clinching the title, Murray reflected: “This week has been perfect for me. I played pretty solidly in all my matches apart from a set-and-a-half against Robin Soderling.

“But I managed to come through that and this has been the best week of my life – it can’t get much better.”
