Coco Gauff injury concerns mount, will she be able to play the Miami Open?

On Sunday night, American tennis star and two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff was forced to retire from her third round match in the second set against Alex Eala with an arm injury.

This was only the second time in Gauff’s career where she retired midmatch. She tried to play through it, taking several medical timeouts, to treat, massage, and ultimately tape the arm.

Gauff is rarely injured, and watching her suffer on court made fans sad and concerned.

Later, Gauff posted on social media that she was anticipating an MRI on Monday to learn more. She and others speculated that the firework sensation she felt could be nerve related.

Two days later, fans are still wondering how serious the injury is

There has been no official word from Gauff or her team about the MRI findings.

It is highly unusual that there has been no news, and tennis fans think that no news is not necessarily good news.

We are just days away from the start of the WTA 1000 Miami Open, one of Gauff’s favorites on the annual schedule.

The Miami Open is a Gauff favorite

21-year-old Gauff was born in Palm Beach, Florida, and considers this her home tournament. Family and friends who do not always travel around the world to see her play come to the Miami Open.

She won the Miami Open doubles title with Jessica Pegula in 2023.

Whatever the injury is, she wants to be healthy and ready to defend her French Open title in May. That was Gauff’s biggest and best win in 2025.
