Coco Gauff keeps it real about Chris Eubanks’ escape room skills

Tennis fans know that 21-year-old Coco Gauff likes to go to escape rooms when she has downtime at WTA tournaments.

After her second round win at Indian Wells, Tennis Channel’s Prakash Amritraj asked Gauff about her recent escape room trip which included her friend, former player, and current Tennis Channel broadcaster Chris Eubanks.

Gauff did not hold back about Eubanks’ contribution, or lack thereof, in helping their group get out of the escape room. She did not care if it was recorded on tape at his current employer where he would surely be asked about it.

What Coco Gauff said

Gauff basically said Eubanks did nothing. He showed up after work, luckily removed his blazer, and barely contributed beyond being the tall person who could access clues that were up high where his 6’8″ frame could access easier than the others in their group.

Eubanks was shown the clip of Gauff, and his comeback was that she keeps inviting him on the escape room trips. The two share a longtime friendship that spans back to Gauff’s early days on the WTA Tour. Eubanks was also the one who was given the privilege of telling Gauff that she would be a flagbearer in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

All kidding aside, Gauff will be laser focused on her third round match against Alex Eala of the Philippines. Eala and Gauff were Italian Open doubles partners and recently faced each other in Dubai.

Hopefully, Gauff has the home field advantage in Indian Wells as the highest ranked American, but Eala has legions of fans who travel the world to attend her matches. In addition, there are many Filipinos who live in California so it is a short trip to Indian Wells to see her there.
