Andre Agassi led Team World to victory at the 2025 Laver Cup.

Stepping in for John McEnroe, Agassi handed out a few debuts, including one to American youngster Alex Michelsen.

Michelsen featured in four matches under Agassi’s guidance as Team World claimed their third Laver Cup title.

Looking back on the tournament, Michelsen spoke about how valuable Agassi’s support was during his time with the team in San Francisco.

Speaking on the latest episode of ‘Served with Andy Roddick‘, Michelsen shared his thoughts on working with Agassi.

“I mean, that was one of the best weeks of my entire life,” said Michelsen.

“And the big thing for me was the amount of energy, how much he wanted us to win. He wanted us to win so bad. You could see it in the matches, he was pretty tight, but in a good way”.

“He would just bring so much energy, and I came out tight as a rope, and he really helped me out that match, I remember”.

Despite winning just one of those four matches, he made it clear that the experience was valuable and memorable.

Agassi’s presence and approach seemed to have left a strong impression on him. Having figures like Agassi and Rafter around appeared to make a significant difference.

“Just seeing him there, how can you not get inspired, when you’ve got Agassi, and you’ve got [Pat] Rafter over there as well, it’s super hard not to get inspired.”

“I was lucky enough to play four different matches in that atmosphere; it was full every day. I had a blast. I only won one match out of the four, but still had a lot of fun”, he said.

Andre Agassi has been the perfect fit to replace John McEnroe

John McEnroe, who guided Team World through the first seven Laver Cup editions, left big shoes to fill.

For a while, there were questions about whether Roger Federer could ever find someone to step into that role. But those doubts seem long gone now.

Agassi’s arrival last year brought a new energy to the event that fans and players seemed to feed off.

The eight-time Grand Slam winner was visibly determined to win, showing an intensity that even McEnroe would respect.

Even though it’s early days, Agassi currently holds the best record of any captain in Laver Cup history. The challenge now is seeing if he can keep it going over time.

He’ll be back on the sidelines this September when the tournament returns to London, where he’ll have Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz in his corner at The O2.

On the other side, Yannick Noah will again lead Team Europe and has already confirmed Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev as part of his squad. Noah is still looking for his first Laver Cup win as captain of Team Europe.
