Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships ATP champion Daniil Medvedev is one of the tennis players stranded in Dubai amid the Middle East unrest.
Medvedev and Andrey Rublev are in a holding pattern in Dubai. Both are attempting to travel to the United States for the ATP 1000 level tournament in Indian Wells, the BNP Paribas Open beginning March 4.
In addition to playing singles, Medvedev is scheduled to play doubles with American Learner Tien and to participate in the March 3 mixed doubles exhibition, teamed with Mirra Andreeva, known as the Eisenhower Cup.

While Medvedev is an emotional player on court, he appears calm and composed in his recent video explaining the situation.

Medvedev is in good spirits and seems normal. He does not show any panic or fear.
It is unclear if his wife and two children are with him in Dubai or at home in Russia.
Andrey Rublev is a close friend and in the same situation.

Medvedev is a two-time Indian Wells finalist (2023 and 2024), losing both to Carlos Alcaraz.
He has called himself a hardcourt specialist, and that is the surface where he has enjoyed his greatest success.

Indian Wells and the Miami Open are hardcourt events worth 1,000 ranking points to the champion; only the Grand Slams (2,000 points) and the ATP Finals (1,500 points) have more significance in the tennis season.
Initial concerns were with the players in Mexico, playing the Acapulco Open (ATP) and Merida Open (WTA), because of the unrest in the Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara areas. The US and Israel-led strikes on Iran came as a surprise to many, and the Dubai airspace is closed as a result.
The Indian Wells Open, sometimes called the BNP Paribas Open and Tennis Paradise, is a player and fan-favorite location for hardcourt tennis. The defending champions are Jack Draper and Mirra Andreeva.
