Venus Williams is upbeat ahead of the ATX Open despite losing her first three matches of the 2026 season.
Williams returned to tennis last summer after taking a 16-month break, winning on her comeback in Washington DC against Peyton Stearns.
Since then, however, the legendary figure has really struggled for any form of momentum, with her 2026 record now sitting at 0-3.
Williams has now shared her form heading into the ATX Open in Austin, for which she has accepted a wildcard.
Venus Williams upbeat despite three successive defeats in 2026
As per Christianâs Court, Williams said of her three tournaments so far this season: âYeah, I played well. It was very exciting.
âI put myself in so many great positions, so that was a great opportunity for me to get out there, get the feedback I needed and get out there and get back to work on the practice court.
âOverall, itâs just been so much fun and Iâve been enjoying the process, so Iâm looking forward to tomorrow.â
Williams starts her ATX Open venture against Ajla Tomljanovic, while she and Stearns meet Taylor Townsend and Storm Hunter in doubles.
Venus Williams can expect more wildcards despite poor form
Williams started her 2026 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland, where she lost to Magda Linette in her opening match.
That was followed by defeat to Tatjana Maria at the Hobart International, before an Australian Open first round loss against Olga Danilovic.
However, she deserves huge credit for taking on the events in the first place, as well as ending the matches with great respect for her opponents.
She is a firm fan favorite, and can therefore expect many more wildcards to go her way despite her poor run of form.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion played at the Australian Open thanks to a wildcard, with fans and indeed many rivals undoubtedly delighted with her appearance, regardless of how brief it was.
Womenâs and menâs tennis should be doing all they can to feature their superstars, and even with her decline, 45-year-old Williams remains one of those superstars.
