Madison Keys was the last player to win her first Grand Slam, lifting the Australian Open trophy in 2025.

Since then, the usual names have continued to dominate. Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina have all increased their tallies.

Rybakina is the most recent winner. She followed up her Wimbledon title from 2022 by defeating Sabalenka at Melbourne Park.

Despite that dominance, there are still a number of players on tour with both talent and pedigree who haven’t yet broken through at a Grand Slam level.

Andy Roddick, who managed it during his playing days, recently named the two best current WTA players still waiting for their first major title.

The WTA recently introduced the 13-member Tour Architecture Council, with Jessica Pegula named as its chair by Valerie Camillo.

The group has been tasked with coming up with a set of changes that could be rolled out in time for the 2027 season.

Roddick praised Pegula’s leadership skills and temperament during a recent appearance on the Served podcast, highlighting how she’s handled external pressure throughout her career:

“I have two thoughts. One, this is a great choice. When was the last time you saw Jess Pegula say something stupid or irresponsible?” he said.

“And she has to deal with a lot of dumb questions, just based on the fact that her family is successful. She handles that so well. This is a great choice.”

Pegula will be joined by several other active players on the council, including Aryna Sabalenka, who also appeared in this year’s Dubai final.

Some of the top names in tennis to never win a Grand Slam

Dinara Safina, Mary Joe Fernandez and Karolina Pliskova are among the best players in history to have never won a major title.

Fernandez [pictured below] reached three major finals in the early 1990s, and won seven WTA titles; while Safina achieved the world number one ranking and made three Grand Slam finals.

Karolina Pliskova, meanwhile, is still active on tour. The former world number one, now 33 years old, has played in two major finals: the 2016 US Open and the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.

She came up short against Angelique Kerber and Ashleigh Barty in those matches.

Other notable names who never managed to claim a Grand Slam singles title include Jelena Jankovic, Pam Shriver and Helena Sukova.
