Diego Schwartzman ended his decorated tennis career in 2025, signing off at his home tournament in Argentina.

Now, Schwartzman is stepping back into the sport, joining INTENNSE, a new professional tennis league based in the United States.

In an interview with Tennishead, Schwartzman talked about his role with INTENNSE and looked back on a career that took him as high as world number eight.

A year into retirement, Schwartzman said there was only one thing he genuinely missed about playing.

It’s been nearly a year since Diego Schwartzman stepped away from professional tennis, and he isn’t looking back with any regrets.

Speaking to Tennishead, Schwartzman explained that what he misses most isn’t the competition or the travel, but something much simpler: the walk onto court.

“Maybe they walk on, walk on in the competition. You know, it’s the only thing I miss, because then there are too many things behind the scenes that nobody knows and nobody sees.”

The day-to-day grind of being a pro player is not something Schwartzman looks back on fondly. The long hours and constant travel have given way to a more settled routine.

“The amount of hours you have to practice, taking care of your body, and many different things that I’m not missing. It’s too many hours per day,” he said.

Schwartzman is set to return to tennis as part of INTENNSE’s Team Ownership Group, with the league starting on 5 June. You can find out more information here.

In addition to his role with INTENNSE this summer, Schwartzman has also been active behind the scenes at some of tennis’ major events.

He took on a backstage role at the Australian Open and even hit the practice courts with Carlos Alcaraz before his final against Novak Djokovic.

Reflecting on his new positions within the sport, he said: “It’s fun for me. You know, behind the scenes, knowing how tennis is doing.”

“Calendar, prize money, different things are going to change maybe the next few years, and it’s good to be behind the scenes, you know, trying to help.”

Schwartzman will be part of INTENNSE alongside former pros Bob and Mike Bryan.
