Oct. 21âMINNEAPOLIS â Third-seeded Foley swept the doubles matches to defeat unseeded Montevideo in the Class A state quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon at InnerCity Tennis.
Foley earned a 5-2 win against the Thunder Hawks and advances to play second-seeded St. James in the Class A state semifinals at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Montevideo plays unseeded Lake City in the consolation semifinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The Thunder Hawks, who will look to build on their sixth-place finish at state in 2024, got a pair of singles victories.
Ashley Klaassen, a senior who has a 20-5 record, earned a 6-1, 6-3 win against Olivia Sauer at No. 1 singles. Nora Mages, an eighth-grader with an 18-3 singles record, won 6-1, 7-6 (3) over Rory Keating at No. 4 singles.
Foley also secured points at Nos. 2 and 3 singles in the victory.
